Bad first impression - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By waynercanada - October 13 - 2:00 amThis is the first and last Ford SUV I will own. The poor quality of the vehicle was magnified by the uncooperative and unhelpful dealership. The vehicle handles poorly in moderate winter conditions and fuel economy has decreased significantly over the last year. The vehicle was never driven off road and is well maintained;however that did not help prevent having to replace both front ball joints, rear wiper, and rear bumper (due to rust) to name a few problems. I have owned this vehicle slightly over a year and now want to rid of it.

Explorer Sport XLT Premium - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By JamesC - October 2 - 10:00 amEdmunds thinks this vehicle is a little long in the tooth, but for me that means reliability. The drive train has been around for over ten years, so we think well have few problems. This is our second Explorer Sport, and we love it. Im 62" and Im comfortable driving it. My wife likes the conveniences of an SUV. Yeah the fuel economy could be better, but you dont buy an SUV for fuel econmy.

Really miss the 4 doors. - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By blnewt - May 9 - 2:00 amAlmost from the day we bought it we regretted not putting a bit extra aside for the 4 Door Explorer. Needless to say, we just traded our Sport in for a 2004 Explorer XLS, and are very happy w/ the decision, just so much more vehicle for the money.

Give the Sport a look! Its good. - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By Sac State - December 24 - 10:00 amAlthough this vehicle takes a bad review from Edmunds, I found the vehicle comfortable, stable and fun to drive. In fact, I have owned three Sports all in seccession. The most recent had every option except the sunroof. I swapped the stock recall tires with Michelin MTX and one size larger. The 4x4 system had major limitations, not being able to run on dry, semi-wet pavement, i.e. rain. Overall, I would highly recommend this vehicle. It had good ride height, versatile interior and look rugged with its two door layout.

LEMON with NO AID - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport
By Audwea - May 2 - 10:00 amWithin the first year, due to or because of the poor quality parts, the interior back seats began rattling/shaking;the back seats a very rarely used. The console rattles and shakes. At 40,000 miles and a year later, I now experience major transmission problems. The automatic transmission doesnt shift smoothly from first to second gear. Within 15 minutes the more exaggerated and predominant the shift, eventually throwing the vehicle out of overdrive on its own.
